pronounced "ray key"

Reiki - 'REI' stands for unseen and 'KI' means life force energy.  Universal energy.

Reiki is not a religion and is not affiliated with any religion.  Reiki involves channeling the universal life force called many names including Chi, Ki, Holy Spirit, Great Unseen Healing Force, etc.

Reiki is an alternative therapy that originated in Japan in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui.  Reiki is a kind of touch therapy.  The followers and practitioners of Reiki believe that by this touch therapy, they can transmit positive energy from one person to another, and the proper flow of this life force energy acts as a healing factor.

How a Reiki treatment is given

In a standard treatment, Reiki energy flows from the practitioners hands into the client.  The client is usually laying on a massage table with arms and legs uncrossed, but treatments can be given while the client is seated or even standing (whichever is most comfortable for the client).  The client remains fully clothed.  The practitioner places his/her hands on or hovering just above the clients body in a series of different hand positions.  Each position is held for a period of time depending on the needs of the client.  A typical treatment can last from anywhere between 30-90 minutes depending on the desire of the clients needs.

What one experiences during a Reiki treatment

This varies from person to person, however, feelings of deep relaxation are usually felt by all.  As the Reiki energy encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear and other negative emotions and feelings.  A state of peace and well-being is experienced.  Some people even drift off to sleep during a treatment.  At the end of a session, one feels refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook.

Benefits of Reiki

Reiki is totally positive and can never cause harm to any living thing: persons young, old, frail, seniors, infants, children, pets/animals, plants, food.  If anyone is ill, in pain or in emotional distress, Reiki can help.  When someone is dying, Reiki eases the process of transition but will not prevent the person or animal from passing at their disignated time.  For grieving loved ones, Reiki is a comfort.
